A Recent Case Study
Genesee County, Michigan
In January of 2018, Money for the Arts was requested to assist in passing a 10-year, $90 million dollars Arts millage for the Arts community of Genesee County, Michigan. Over the next eight months, Pulse worked with community leaders to get the millage placed on the ballot and oversaw the campaign to get it passed.
For context, it’s important to understand the situation on the ground in Genesee County. The county has a per capita income of only $19,860 with 16.9% of families, and 21% of the total population, below the poverty line. Flint, Michigan - the county seat was recently ranked as the sixth most violent city in the nation and they are experiencing a water crisis of epic proportions.
Yet, even with all these factors, our campaign plan and strategy was able to garner 53% of the vote and pass $90 million dollars for the arts. We’ve been touted by most campaign analysts as doing something nearly impossible.
